Properly fitting a mouthguard to your jaw is essential for its effectiveness and comfort. Here are the steps to fit a mouthguard to your teeth:
Materials needed:
- Hot water (to soften the mouthguard)
- A container of cold water (to cool the mouthguard)
- Mouthguard
Steps:
1. Boil the water: Fill a container with water and heat it until it is almost boiling.
2. Submerge the mouthguard in 200ml of hot water for about 30-40 seconds. This will soften it enough for you to mold it.
3. Cool the mouthguard: Remove the mouthguard from the hot water and immediately immerse it in cold water for 45 seconds. This will harden the material enough so you can handle it without burning yourself.
4. Mold the mouthguard:
- Remove the mouthguard from the cold water and place it in your mouth. Align the mouthguard so that it covers your upper teeth and press it against your teeth with your fingers and tongue.
- Bite down firmly on the mouthguard and use your fingers to press it against your teeth to ensure it fits properly.
- Make sure it fits your teeth well and is comfortable.
5. Final adjustments: If you feel any uncomfortable pressure points or areas that need to be reshaped, you can repeat steps 2 to 4.
6. Care and maintenance: After each use, rinse the mouthguard with warm water and dry it before storing it in its case or in a clean place.
